For some of Sydney’s best Federation houses the skill lies in the aesthetic alignments that can be found between old and new. Hence, the renovation brief to Briony Fitzgerald Interior Design for the Florence House in Sydney’s North Shore, was to marry the heritage section starting from the façade and front section of the house, with an updated rear addition. Creating a sense of design cohesion between the two serves to increase functionality for the family and makes visual sense of the two spaces.

A complete reconfiguration of the rear addition involved re-locating the kitchen to the other side of the house to open up the space and facilitate entertaining and large family gatherings.

In the garden the existing pool required refurbishing with new pool tiles and coping, the exterior of the house was updated with a new paint scheme and areas of the garden were re-decked with masonry garden walls painted in dark tones to recede into the foliage.

A number of fine design details, such as the balustrade treatment, were beautifully resolved indicating the attention to detail on the part of both the designers and the building team at Robert Plumb Fix.
